Connect it#
In Homla, open Connectors, then Slack. The Setup guide button walks you through the same steps, with fields to paste into.
Who can do it. Any member of the Slack workspace, each for themselves. The workspace must be one the Homla Slack app is available to (ask Homla if Slack says the app is not available for your workspace). If the workspace requires app approval, a Workspace Owner or Admin approves the Homla app once, then everyone can connect.
- Open Slack in HomlaIn Homla, open Connectors, then Slack, then Connect my Slack account. Each person does this for themselves: a connection belongs to one Slack user. Open it.
- Pick the right workspaceSlack opens its consent screen. Check the workspace name in the top right corner and switch it if needed: the connection only covers that workspace.
Connected the wrong workspace? Disconnect in Homla and connect again, choosing the right one.
- Review what Homla asks for, then AllowSlack lists the permissions below. They are user permissions: Homla reads and posts as you, never as a bot, and only sees channels and DMs you can already see. Click Allow. People who only get read tools in Homla still grant the same permissions; Homla hides the write tools from their role and refuses writes from read tools.
- If Slack says the app needs approvalSome workspaces only allow approved apps. You then see Request to install instead of Allow. Send the request; a Workspace Owner or Admin approves Homla in the app management page, and you connect again. Open it.
- Check the connectionBack in Homla, the Slack page shows your account as connected. Ask your assistant "What did I miss on Slack?" to try it. If a tool answers that a permission is missing (for example files:write for uploads), your connection predates that tool: disconnect and connect again to grant it.
Common errors: missing_scope means reconnect; not_in_channel means you are not a member of that channel (join it first); token_revoked means the app was removed in Slack, connect again.
What your AI can do#
These are the actions Homla gives your AI. Your role decides which ones you get. Write actions are a dry run until confirmed, see Approvals and dry runs.
Read#
Looks things up, never changes anything.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
slack_search | Search the connected person's Slack, Slack syntax ('from:@alice after:2026-07-01'). |
slack_digest | What did I miss on Slack. |
slack_channels_list | List the channels this person is a member of, with the id to pass to channel_history. |
slack_channel_history | Read recent messages in one channel or DM, newest first. |
slack_thread_replies | Read a whole thread, given the channel id and the parent message's ts (from channel_history). |
slack_file_get | Fetch a file a Slack message carries, by the file id in that message's files array. |
slack_users_find | Find people by name, handle or email and return the U… id. |
slack_user_lookup_by_email | Find a Slack member by their exact email address and return their U… id, ready to tag or DM. |
slack_pins_list | List the pinned messages and files in a channel. |
slack_reactions_list | List the emoji reactions on one message, with who reacted. |
Write#
Creates or changes things, as the account owner.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
slack_message_post | Post a message to a channel or DM as the connected person, not a bot. |
slack_message_update | Rewrite a message in place, only on messages the connected person authored. |
slack_message_delete Deletes | Delete a message, only on messages the connected person authored. |
slack_file_upload | Upload 1-10 files to a channel/thread as one message. |
slack_channel_manage | Create, rename, archive/unarchive, join, invite people to, or set the topic/purpose of a channel. |
slack_dm_open | Open (or reuse) a DM or group DM with one or more people, optionally posting the first message. |
Disconnect it#
In Homla, open the account menu on the tool's page and choose Disconnect. Anyone it was shared with loses access at once. To cut it off on the tool's side too:
To cut Homla off, disconnect Slack in Homla, or in Slack open Manage apps, find Homla, and under Authorizations revoke your own authorization (an Admin can remove the app for the whole workspace). Removing the app ends every Homla connection to that workspace at once.
